      Child Care Site Director Interview

      20 Dec 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Everett, WA
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at The Y (YMCA) (Everett, WA) in Oct 2013

      Interview

I applied online through the YMCA career website and received an email a few days later inviting me in for an interview. The interview was conducted out in the main lobby, where gym members were walking by and people were hanging out - very unprofessional in my opinion. The lady who interviewed me was not prepared for the interview and only asked me three questions before asking if I had any questions for her. I had several questions for her and the interview ended up turning into me interviewing her to find out more about the job. She offered me the job at the end of the interview and I planned to start two weeks later. I was told I needed to get a drug test, background check cleared, and TB test done before the start of employment. I followed up with the lady who interviewed me several times over the next two weeks. I often wouldn't get a response for days. She seems very disorganized and flustered when I would call or email to follow up. She totally dropped the ball and didn't get my drug test paperwork submitted in time, so my employment was delayed. Then I was told to come in and sign paperwork and to bring a copy of my transcripts. This is almost a month into the process now, no joke. I brought my transcripts in and the lady tells me I don't have the educational credentials that qualify me for the job. Um what?!?!? It was HER JOB to vet me before the interview. Why interview me, deem me qualified, and then go back on your word? She really had no idea what she was doing. The point at which I said "Cya, I don't want to work for you" was when, during the paperwork signing appointment, she told me that since I didn't meet the minimum educational requirements of having 30 credits in childhood development, that she would have to offer me a lower pay rate than we had agreed upon previously. I told her, kindly, no way. She said that she may be able to get special approval from her supervisor to pay me what she had originally told me I would paid. So I told her to please ask her supervisor and to get back to me when she heard something. I followed up after a week of not hearing from her, and she said she was still waiting to have that meeting and would get back to me. That was 3 weeks ago. Yep, no thank you YMCA. I was really disappointed at how unprofessional the hiring process was.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

She only asked me three questions. 1) Tell me about yourself 2) Have you worked with kids before and 3) Do you have any questions for me. I'm being serious.
