Got found by recruiting company who put me in touch with Theodo. Had a phone call with an internal recruiter which was good and gave me a sense of the company. Then got sent a codility test which included 3 coding questions of increasing difficulty. There’s an edge case in the last one that they say 50% of their current employees miss so if you miss that then don’t feel too bad.
The next step is a logic test followed by pair programming and then an interview with the CTO and CEO. I disagree with logic tests as a means of assessing candidate ability for a tech job and many industry experts agree with this view. I did not think this was a good test of my coding ability at all. It was a bit strange as well because the pair programming was very easy and straightforward and nowhere near as challenging as the logic tests. I then flew out for an interview with the CEO and CTO (which was not reimbursed, again, another red flag). I suggest that the company review its rules for this as a student with no income will find this a challenge to pay for. Their justification was that they don’t pay for flights and transport as a blanket rule because it’s hard to draw a line in terms of what they pay for and what they don’t but I think that’s very easy problem to solve; just cap it at something like £100 — it’s really not that hard. The last stage was an interview with the CTO and CEO and they asked very personal and intrusive questions. I can understanding their thinking about making sure candidates are able to withstand pressure and challenge but asking me about the relationship I have with my parents in an interview is out of line. After the interviews I got the offer and to be honest the package is very average and I’d go so far as saying subpar. I didn’t take the role as I got another offer the same day with a much higher salary. Suggest they review the difficulty of their interview process and how it relates to the end package they offer candidates as these things do not match up at all. Also they should consider reimbursing candidates for travel especially given the below industry standard package.
