Applied in response to a craigslist advertisement for the company's "Leadership Development Program." The company has a South Louisiana presence, and there was no indication anywhere in the ad that the position would require relocation. I transmitted my resume and cover letter to them in the early afternoon, and their recruiter called me back in less than two hours. After talking about my background and why I was interested in their program, they laid out what they were offering. In short, they have an 18-24 month management training program in which they take recruits and place them into the field to "learn" the business. From there, once the recruit satisfactorily completes the program, s/he is presumably moved up the line in management. The starting pay is $18 with overtime, but there is no guarantee of even a full 40 hours each week. The recruiter's advice--even during my early interview--was that workers were advised to save their money for the weeks where there was no work. I asked what percentage of folks who entered the program successfully completed it, but the recruiter refused to answer. Still, I was interested in finding out more, so I asked the recruiter what the "next step" would be. That's when they advised the position would require relocation to a (presently unspecified) locale. Since that's not an option for me, I had to respectfully decline. I would note that their advertisement states that the position is being posted by their South Louisiana location, and occasional travel / overnight stays may be required. There was nothing stated about the possibility of having to move to a to-be-determined location at some unspecified point in the future. If such a statement had been there, I would not have wasted their time and mine.
