I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Toast Inc in Feb 2021
Interview
HR Phone Screen - 30 minutes or so
Technical phone screen - Person was caught off guard that I didn't have Java on my resume (which she was probably viewing for the first time as the interview was getting started) that I guess she was expecting and seemed put off by the fact that I wanted to do it in JavaScript instead (which I would think is more than reasonable for a web developer....)
Anyway, we went through a programming exercise which I thought went ok. She offered feedback which I offered to implement but she said it was ok and I didn't have to. Asked some web trivia-ish questions that I answered, and she mostly said yeah I guess that's right but I was thinking of this other thing. So, all in all kind of hard to tell where I stood. The time is up and we say goodbye.
A month passes with no word from Toast, and I carry on interviewing with some other places, figuring that some places say no by just ghosting you.
After that month, I get an email from a different recruiter at Toast. We found someone more qualified so decided not to move forward with that other job, but would you be willing to interview again with a different team? I declined as I had already accepted a new job elsewhere.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Basic programming problems. Maybe it wasn't as easy as I thought because they didn't want to move forward!
Leetcode style 1 hr technical along with 1 hr behavioral with pretty standard questions. Interviewers were both really nice and hardest part of technical were the follow-up questions but the interviewer was very helpful.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Toast Inc (Dublin, Dublin) in Apr 2026
Interview
I scheduled a first round technical interview. Recruiter emailed 2 days later saying position filled. Very disappointing. Phone screen was good descriptive and helpful. Shoukd of flagged rolling hiring. Was for junior engineer role.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Toast Inc (Bengaluru) in Mar 2026
Interview
Overall, the interview experience was good, with questions ranging from a moderate to slightly challenging level. There were a total of four rounds, and the difficulty progressively increased with each stage. The initial rounds focused on fundamental concepts and gradually moved toward more in-depth problem-solving and advanced topics in later rounds. This progression allowed for a structured evaluation of both core understanding and the ability to handle complex scenarios.
