      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Toys "R" Us (Santa Rosa, CA) in Oct 2011

      Interview

About a week after I applied online, I was called while I was at home, and asked if I would like an interview. It was scheduled for the next day, which was great because I didn't have to wait and be anxious for a long time. I was told to come in to the front desk, and they would show me to the break room. I was the first person there, and took some time to familiarize myself with my surroundings. The break room has some nice furnishings, like a refrigerator, microwave, two vending machines and even some hangers to put your jackets up on. Three more people eventually filtered into the room, and our interviewer came and showed us to our room. We sat at the table, two on each side, and we were asked to do two different activities. The first was to get into pairs and interview each other. We all had a piece of scratch paper and a pen to jot things down on. We just chose the people we were sitting directly next to, because it was easier. The end result was that we were to 'sell' this other person as a prospective team member of Toys "R" Us. We wrote down the other person's job history, education, personality attributes that might make them specifically suited to the job, and anything else that we thought might help. We then took turns presenting this other person to the interviewer. The second activity involved the five toys that were set out on the side of the table. We were to each pick one toy, take down notes and absorb whatever we could on it, and then make a presentation about that toy, and why this prospective 'customer' should buy it. Some laughs and small chit-chat took place, and it seemed like everyone got along well. After that part of the process, we were sent back to the break room. After a few minutes, a name was called and one of the candidates went back into the interview room for a one-on-one, and then they were sent on their way. We each had this, and during mine I was asked to come back a week later for a second interview with the general manager. I was told that I could come back to the front desk once more, ask for his name and I would be shown to the room again. I would say this interview took about thirty minutes or so. Once a week had passed, I arrived to my destination in basic company colors - burgundy and black. The manager was right on time, and I went from the break room to the interview room once more. He asked me to sit down, and then asked some questions about my education and prior job experience. After that, I was asked three more questions: "How would you deal with an upset customer?", "What was the proudest moment you've ever had at a job?", and "Do you have any more questions?". After about seven minutes total, he shook my hand and told me that he'd love to offer me a job.
