      Store Manager Interview

      6 Apr 2012
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Houston, TX
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Tractor Supply (Houston, TX) in Apr 2012

      Interview

I applied on the company web site three different times for different positions and locations. The last time I was contacted by a regional recruiter about 2 weeks after applying. We set up a phone interview for several days later in the week. That conversation lasted a little over an hour and was one of the most intense and detailed I can ever recall participating in. I wasn't sure I was making a good connection with my answers as the recruiter was typing all my responses into his system so there were several moments of akward silence. As you would expect my responses were forwarded to the next person in the interview chain so he wouldn't have to ask the same questions over. 6 days later the area manager emailed me to set up a 1:1 interivew in his office. That was much more of a get to know you interview that lasted about 50 minutes. 24 hours later however the recruiter informed me via form e-mail that I was no longer being considered for the position. Suggestion to future interviewees: 1. Know the history of Tractor Supply and be able to explain what about the company draws you to them - both interviewers were particularly interested in this and it was the first question from both of them. 2. If you have prior retail experience you should be ready with examples of how you used your P&L to manage your business; what your weekly and monthly responsibilities were; how you delegated work and followed up on its execution; and why you want to work at TSC instead of another retailer. The company web site career section says they welcome people of all types of retail background even if they don't have any farm or farm animal experience, but I cannot help but feel my lack of those life experiences worked against me - just by the sound of the voice of the recruiter and the facial reaction by the area manager when I said I have only taken care of house pets my whole life.

      Store Manager Interview

      21 Mar 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Tampa, FL
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Tractor Supply (Tampa, FL) in Jan 2018

      Interview

Recruiter reached out 2 weeks later an interview was scheduled with the DM. Regular retail interview. Focus on customer loyalty and ways to drive sales and retain staff. However be aware if you apply for an unassigned opening the position really does not exist and you will get an offer with compensation for a store manager, if you are not placed within a certain time frame following training your salary will be reduced and you will take a lower position. For this I decided against joining this company. If you are unemployed you may want to chance it. I on the otherhand was not goibg to leave a secured position for training and a promise. Otherwise it seems to be a great company.

      Store Manager Interview

      27 Sept 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Oneonta, NY
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Tractor Supply (Oneonta, NY) in Jun 2017

      Interview

Phone interview, meeting 1, meeting 2, meeting 3, meeting 4. It was an extensive process and a bit unnecessary. They were all kind and know what they are talking about. If you don't know P&L then this is not a position for you.
