      Sales Manager Interview

      11 May 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 2 months. I interviewed at TrueCar in Mar 2026

      Interview

The interview process with the actual team was great and the people I met with were thoughtful, professional, and clearly trying to do good work. Unfortunately, the experience completely changed once it got to the private equity leadership side of the business. After four rounds of interviews, communication completely stopped with no follow up or closure on the process. The expectation also seemed unrealistic, with an overwhelming focus on AI as the answer to nearly every business problem. It felt less like they wanted experienced operators and more like they expected candidates to magically “prompt engineer” the company into growth and efficiency. The company operates in a space that absolutely has value in the automotive industry, but the current direction felt disconnected from the realities of dealer relationships, sales execution, and customer success. From my perspective, much of the recent profitability appears tied to significant layoffs rather than sustainable operational improvements. If you interview here, just be prepared for a long process, very high expectations around AI, and the possibility of little communication afterward.
