I applied through university. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at UC San Diego (San Diego, CA) in Feb 2014
Interview
Pretty typical graduate school interview. First night (Thurs) we went out for a casual dinner with our grad student hosts, the next day (Friday)we went to interviews with faculty, then we got to go to a nice dinner and out to a local brewery. Saturday they took us out for a fun activity to see more of San Diego and then to a house party at a current students house. The grad students are friendly. The faculty mainly talked about their own research during the interviews.
I got interview by one of the professors and he asked about my background and the projects I worked on. Then he asked about some RC circuits. The questions were on the frequency response and step response of the circuits.
Interesting, insightful, positive experience where we talked about numerous different cases and what my interest are. also given time to ask questions which they answer in detail. Would recommend and a postive experience
The interview process was straight forward. I applied through handshake. Since I was a student in UCSD with work experience relevant to their requirement I was considered for in-person interview with professor. There were few technical questions and finally HR round.
