After meeting with a local recruiter and deciding that the Army was a good career opportunity, I got a ticket for MEPS to go and take the ASVAB. A few weeks later, I got a second ticket to go for the physical and contract. There was a drug screening, eye and ear tests, blood tests, full physical etc. The process was long but pretty smooth; they put you in a 4 Star hotel the night before to make sure you pass the breathalyzer, and your next three meals are provided free of charge. I went on Saturdays, so wake-up was at 0500, but on weekdays it is 0400.
After passing the physical with no complications, I went on to pick my job. It was quick because I knew I wanted infantry. We discussed my bonus, I signed a few things, went to get finger printed and review the UCMJ. After about an hour I was sworn in. In all, the waiting was the hardest part, but everybody goes through it and it's not so bad. At 1800 the night before, I checked in to the hotel, and at 1400 the following day I went home with a contract.
