I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at US Marine Corps in Mar 2012
Interview
If you decide that you want to join you can speak with a recruiter. After you go through that entire process you will go to take tests and what not. If you physically and mentally meetthe requirements you will receive a date for boot camp and select an MOS dependent on what you scored on the test. After boot camp you will receive your duty station and begin your actual job.
Straightforward process, they asked what one would like to do and expressed why joining the organization is a good idea. They expressed what positions are available based on my test scores, and helped me select which path to go down.
3 month boot camp Where you are yelled at and screamed at and put through physical and mentally demanding trama. Not for the faint of heart. If you want the easy route go to the navy
I applied in-person. I interviewed at US Marine Corps
Interview
Go down to your local recruiter office and see what opportunities are available. Be honest, but also prepared for rejection as not everyone is qualified for service. The recruitment process can be long or short depending.
