I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at VIPKid (Beijing, Beijing) in Mar 2015
Interview
This was one of the most comprehensive interview and training I have ever had for an ESL position, but I guess the company wants to make sure they have the right type of people for their company. A little bit of background about myself: I'm an African-American ESL instructor with three years of experience, teaching both online as well as in-person. I was at first skeptical that I would be hired because of my race (according to some reviews), but I was pleasantly surprised that I got along with the people I had come across during the whole interview process. I passed the demo and first practicum with flying colors and now officially work for them. The interview process is not too difficult if you naturally have a positive, upbeat personality and take their suggestions seriously. The training videos help a ton, so do not skip watching these! Having great props will definitely give you higher marks in your practicum phase.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They asked me if I taught children before and if I had a degree.
Got hired as a British speaking then cancelled as not from America which I disclosed at the first interview which I think was silly and unprofessional at the time it was during covid when this happpened.
Very lenghthy interview process, but the interviewers were nice and helpful. There were several steps to the process and it was pretty involved. I had to prepare a lesson beforehand
It was easy an straightforward. 1 interview and 2 mock classes to pass. They offer a contract for a year with option to renew after 1st contract is over. Overall the process last for about 2 weeks from the time you apply unless you are waitlisted.
