I passed the initial application process and did the 10 minute demo lesson. I got a response back with feedback from the demo, my pay rate, and information about signing up for my mock class. I was very excited and thought I was in! I've spent 9 years teaching ESL students in the elementary classroom and I have my master's in education. I spent hours preparing for the mock lesso, watching videos, and practicing. I thought it went quite well except that I didn't finish the lesson on time. I wasn't surprised to hear in my feedback that they would like me to do a second mock class. (I heard that most end up doing a second mock class.) I was also grateful for the additional practice. I spent hours preparing for Mock 2 but the mentor seemed a bit more harsh (and negative) in her feedback during the class which kind of threw me. Oh well. I thought I had it in the bag. She told me I would hear back within 48 hours - even if I don't pass. (She practically told me then I wasn't going to "pass" between that and several other comments. It was a bit discouraging.) After 48 hours had passed, I emailed VIPKID's recruitment team letting them know my mentor instructed me to contact them if I hadn't heard back within 48 hours. I received an email saying that based on feedback from my mentor, there were parts that needed improvement and I was welcome to apply again in 3 months. I am heartbroken as I was really excited about this opportunity. I still haven't received feedback from the lesson so I don't know why I wasn't hired.
