I applied online. I interviewed at VIPKid (Silver Spring, MD) in Jun 2017
Interview
I applied online and was emailed to schedule a time for the interview. They sent me a slideshow for the demo lesson I was supposed to do. During the interview, I felt very rushed, and anytime I was supposed to ask the student a question, the interviewer, posing as the student, kept giving me wrong answers! When trying to correct "the student" she just kept repeating the wrong answer. Maybe, she was trying to gauge how I handled an unresponsive student?? I understand the students are supposed to have a very basic, very limited understanding of the language, but she acted like she did not understand anything I was saying! It just made the experience very frustrating, because it was almost like they didn't really want you to teach them, rather just throw you for a loop. I don't think they're interviewing process is very efficient at hiring good teachers. After several technical difficulties, I was asked to log out and then log back into the classroom, and was unable to log back in. So, after an hour, I was unable to complete the interview and asked to schedule another one. Honestly, I feel discouraged to try again, only because the interviewers seem more focused on "tricking" you, rather than evaluating your teaching skills.
