The interview process consisted of multiple rounds, including initial screening conversations and follow-up interviews with members of the sales team and hiring manager. Throughout the process, communication was generally responsive and the conversations were productive. I had 6 different meetings. 5 via teams and 1 in person. The 7th was a mock demo. I progressed to what was positioned as the final stage of the process, which involved preparing and delivering a mock demo/presentation. This required a meaningful time investment to prepare appropriately. However, the day before the scheduled mock demo, I received a call from the hiring manager informing me that the company had decided to move in a different direction. The demo was canceled without the opportunity to present. During a prior conversation, I had asked clarifying questions about the compensation structure and how top performers were achieving earnings within the plan. Shortly after that discussion, the process was ended. I was told it was because I had expressed concerns with the comp, which wasn’t unreasonable but it was low, which the hiring manager even agreed that it was. I was expecting them to negotiate with me, not end the process.
