I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Varsity Tutors (Gainesville, FL) in Jun 2015
Interview
After I completed the brief online application, within two hours I received a text for the phone interview with a link which allows you to choose a preferred phone interview time. Interview times are offered for up to after a week from your phone interview. Varsity Tutors is busy recruiting, as I had set up an interview time but had to reschedule. When I accessed the link again for available phone interview times, they were a week out. I emailed to try to get something sooner but the response was that they were booked. The phone interview did not even last 10 minutes. I was informed that now that the application was confirmed, and I was not sure what this meant, they were going to review my application again, and be in contact within 2-3 days. I got the impression that the phone interview was rushed and decided to just wait to hear back from them, rather than ask what was meant by a re-reviewing the application. I thought perhaps this meant that they simply wanted to confirm a match between the application/resume identity by phone. A flat rate is offered for online tutors of $15/hr. She explained that the online tutoring platform is very interactive, with web cam and white board, to name a couple mentioned.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
I was asked how I'd heard about Varsity Tutors, what my tutoring experience was, what age group I preferred tutoring, and if I had any questions for them.
I answered questions about how I would respond to various teaching scenarios in real time. The interviewer was a Bot, which surprised me. The Bot gave validating feedback throughout the interview. I wasn't sure if that was a good sign or not, thinking the platform might do that in any case. But I got hired.

Interview
Didn't even complete the interview. I expected it to be a normal one-way interview, but it was a conversation with a talking AI bot. I closed out of it immediately.
Makes me wonder what else they are using AI for in replace of actual employees.
