Interview
Immediately after applying, I was sent a 50-question/15 minute aptitude test that was required before my application would be considered. After a day, I was contacted by a recruiter to set up time for a phone screening the following week. I received a $10 digital gift card to buy a coffee before the call which I appreciated. The recruiter was very friendly, told me the hiring manager personally pulled my resume for her to review, and I was moved to the next step of the process where I virtually met the hiring manager. Again, very friendly and conversational interview that went 15 minutes over the allotted time. Things started to go south when I was moved to the final stage which was a virtual panel interview (a "vibe check" as the hiring manager told me) and one of the three interviewers did not show up. I immediately doubted that I was a serious candidate. A week after the interview, the hiring manager personally reached out to let me know that the decision was delayed due to people being out of office. Two weeks later, I received a canned auto-rejection email that was not appropriate for a final stage candidate.

Interview
I added my resume to the portal in Nov. 2025 just to be considered for anything I was qualified for. I was called by a recruiter a week later. Did a phone screening. The next day I was asked to come for a "chat" but not "formal interview", because there was no posted role at that time. I met with the department manager; we had a great conversation. I was told by the recruiter I would be a great fit for VU, they just needed a role to open up. Fast forward to Jan 26, I apply for an opening that was exactly what we had talked about and was told they were going with other candidates with more supervisory experience - that was fair. February 2026, asked to come "chat" with another person from people services- but not an "official interview". We talked for an hour and a half about internal comms roles and my experience. Ultimately, nothing ever came of it. May 2026, two more internal comms roles are posted. I apply and am immediately rejected. No reason why, no feedback on why I kept being asked to "chat" and told I was a great fit for the company, but when I actually applied was immediately rejected. I don't' know if I said something wrong, I don't know if I was being mined for ideas but not actually considered, and I don't know if they ultimately just didn't like me. But it felt like a bait and switch of getting my hopes up and then tossing me aside with no feedback or reason why. Very disappointing experience, ultimately. I'll never "interview or chat" for a non-posted role again.

Interview
Began with a simple virtual screening just to introduce yourself. That was followed by a take home assessment. Finally there was an in person panel interview. The final interview was largely non-technical and focused on behavioral questions and your ability to explain technical concepts.
