I attempted to apply for a Curator position at the Moss Center. References were requested but it was not clear if the online system would be automatically sending an email request to my references, which universities sometimes do even for staff positions. I emailed the HR contact given and inquired. I received a reply saying that he wasn't sure and that I should contact someone else directly. This person turned out to be the hiring manager, ie. the person I was applying to work for. I found this to be awkward but forwarded the HR email to this person and reiterated my question. My email was ignored. In short, the application was unclear, HR was unable to perform their function of answering basic questions and serving as a liaison between applicants and the hiring department/ manager, and I was then ignored by the hiring manager herself. Needless to say, with this level of dismissal and disfunction, I was no longer interested in the position.
