      Full Stack PHP Developer Interview

      5 Aug 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Denver, CO
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Virtuance (Denver, CO) in May 2018

      Interview

Interview process was fairly laid back and friendly. Take-home technical coding challenge followed by one on one technical interview in person. Then finally, an interview to determine cultural fit. The last step was a little intimidating because cultural fit is so subjective and it’s impossible to know the “right” answer. Expect difficult questions that force you to choose between a blatantly canned "interview coach" response, or an honest truth that makes you look bad. A couple things really turned me off about this interview. The main thing was that they asked for references from my current employer even though I told them nobody knew I was looking for a new job. It turned out they never actually used these references because they had already decided on another candidate. I found this to be incredibly unprofessional, as it put undue pressure on me to jeopardize my current job and livelihood. Secondly, the URL I completed my code challenge on was reused for other candidates, so I was also able to see the names of a couple other candidates and view their coding challenges. This was somewhat concerning to me as far as privacy and I wondered if any other candidates before me had seen my personal information as well. Virtuance talks a lot about the importance of company values, but doesn't seem to have much respect for the privacy of their candidates. I came away from this interview with a very sour taste in my mouth.
