      VISTAGE Group Chairman Interview

      6 Aug 2015
      Anonymous employee
      San Diego, CA
      Accepted offer
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Vistage Worldwide (New York, NY) in Feb 2015

      Interview

The interview process was great, very in-depth, with lots of stages including predictive index survey, non disclosure agreement, orientation and information videos, then two more WebEx interviews with other key employees, then a background and criminal investigation. All of that is great and well done. You would think that they should have a pretty good idea after all of that. You would be so wrong. They then invite you to an intense week of foundations training, at your expense (my hotel $225/day, airfare $700 and expenses $50/day in San Diego was a considerable investment). I truly believed in the company and the process). It is only after attending this event are you officially contracted as a 1099. Here is were it all goes really bad. Throughout the entire week of foundations training I was positively reinforced but giving zero constructive feedback otherwise. At the end of a grueling week, I was certain that this was the career that I would ride of into the sunset with. I truly love this stuff. Unfortunately, upon arrival back on the East Coast on Saturday, I was sent the 'we regret to inform you' EMAIL of all things. Apparently I was one of maybe ten attendees out of 30+ that did not get signed. They stated that, they instructors felt that I had the core competencies and skills to be an effective chair but did not really get to know me personally. They stated that I did not share enough of my personal feelings and as a result felt that I would not be a good candidate for the position. You mean to tell me, after four weeks of interviews, predictive index surveys, personality tests, several hours of orientation videos, two live 90 minute webinars and one week of intensive training, they could not have given me a LITTLE heads up!! Maybe, hey, go spend some one on one time with your instructors. Never mind that they are all extremely busy running back and forth running this very complex event. Or maybe, you need to open up more, we are looking for people that can easily share their feelings in a group setting. No problem. I left San Diego, feeling on top of the world, I finally found the career of a lifetime. Getting this notice in an email, was so low, it took the wind out of my sails. I would recommend anyone getting involved with this company to understand this before you go to the foundations meeting. Of course they did inform me ahead of time that I would be officially hired until after the foundations event, but they made it seem more like a formality. I threw everything I had into learning, was very involved and took part in everything. I just don't understand why I did not get any feedback along the way. I found this behavior to be very crass and unprofessional. Be aware. Please understand, I went through the process with the full knowledge that it would be four to six months before even generating any income. That takes some serious up front commitment on my part. I just don't get why they could not have figure this out sooner.
