I applied online. I interviewed at Voltus in Feb 2026
Interview
The interview process consisted of a recruiter screening call, a 45m interview with the hiring manager, a 90m panel coding interview with the team, a 45m call with the VP Engineering, and a 30m call with the President. The panel coding interview was based on pre-reading a short package, and then developing a working python api live and discussing tradeoffs. Everyone during the interview process were fantastic to talk to, and very generous with their time.
The exception to this was the interview with the President. He showed up 20m late to a 30m meeting and conducted the interview over the phone while driving. During those 10m he asked rapid-fire behavioural questions and pressured me to go into detail as to why I was leaving my company. His attitude was condescending to the work that I do and inappropriate for an interview. If the hiring manager had conducted the exact same interview, I would not have continued in the process.
It is very disappointing that every other interviewer gave me a strong-hire rating, except for the veto by the President. Be prepared for this interview stage if you choose to interview at Voltus.
5 interviews, spread out over the course of ~2-3 months. Process was fairly disorganized and unnecessarily long but all interviewers were friendly. Multiple informational interviews, one system design interview, and one take home.
First conversation was with the hiring manager. He was very personable and low key. The intelligent, laid back type. It was very conversational, not an interrogation.
The second interview was a system design question. Design a REST webservice to do X, now scale it, etc. The interviewer here was also very empathetic.
The final was a take home project: design & write an architecture to take input via a REST service & publish out to a variable number of subscribers. Follow up was a panel interview to discuss.
In all, I thought all of the interviewers were thoughtful and not at all adversarial.
