I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Waffle House (Fayetteville, NC) in Jan 2015
Interview
I put in an application for a server and due to my management background I was offered a Unit Manager interview. Met with Neil Nichols the Area People Director (APD) at a quiet location. He explained the responsibilities, pay and benefits in a no nonsense, real deal, bottom line that was impressive. He asked to meet with my spouse and made sure he didn't have any questions or concerns and to make it very clear what my time constraints and responsibilities as a Unit Manager would be. It's important to the company that you have full support at home to succeed. From there I took a surprisingly difficult math test and a personality test, hashed out my pay and went to what they call an "In Unit". This is where they throw you into the store for a couple days with no information to see how you handle yourself. They are looking for you to not only be busy and helpful but it's very important that you interact with customers. Staffing is a huge part of your job and they need to see if you are shy approaching people. Want to slam dunk this part? Recruit someone! Any position, sales person, grill op, whatever! And don't get voted off the island, they ask the employees their opinions of you and truly consider their input when deciding your fate. It's a humbling experience.

Question 1
What do you feel is one of your greatest weaknesses in the workplace?
I applied online. I interviewed at Waffle House (Grayson, GA) in Dec 2025
Interview
Initial application was met with a recruiter who went over the job description and talked about my credentials. I then had an interview person interview with 2 division managers (location I applied for was already filled but they still wanted me to interview as I was open to traveling outside of my city). Had to take the management assessment After that, another in person interview with the area manger. Was asked to come in that weekend for the 2 day In Unit the same day of my interview with the area manager. During the in unit shifts, you really get an understanding of how Waffle House operates! HR manager followed up that Monday and explained the steps to the contingent offer (background and drug test) and a formal offer comes next.

Tell me what great customer service means to you.
Tell me about a time you went above and beyond for a customer
Area manager interview is a lot more in depth.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Waffle House (Vestavia Hills, AL) in Oct 2023
Interview
I found that the interview was an extremely pleasant process. Once it got going, from what I can tell, it’s going to end up being an incredible experience. I still am going this weekend to do the two days of essentially seeing if the job is something that I’ll want to continue forward with the company. I also have to submit to a hair follicle test and background check. None of these will be an issue so I’m not worried about it. I have not received an offer yet. However, that will be what we discussed after these two days. It did not give me the option to add that as an answer to the below question. I’m hopeful that things will go quite well, and I’ll be a great fit with the company.
