      Systems Administrator Interview

      20 May 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Poulsbo, WA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Watson Furniture Group (Poulsbo, WA) in Mar 2022

      Interview

Phone interview with HR followed by scheduling to come in and meet with the team. Email communications right from the beginning after the initial phone screen were very poor, though I still went forward with the interview. Before I even walked in the door, I had a problem. I was told where to park, simply in the visitors parking area. Unfortunately, this area was fully taken up by employees. I had to drive around the building trying to figure out where to park, all the while trying to get into the building on time. I ended up having to park my car on an unpaved pile of rocks. Not gravel. Not dirt. Rocks. When I made my way inside, I found out that the person I was to meet with was not available, so I met with the CFO instead. The CFO was nice, but knew next to nothing about the job itself or its day to day. I grilled him on how the company handled previous recesssions and how they plan to handle the one that seems to be coming. The answer was wishy-washy and vague, but more or less was "we laid people off and intend to do so again." The next interview was with a help desk agent and a project manager. This interview was a waste of time. Very little technical interviewing took place and nothing from the past places of my employment came up. It felt more like chatting. So far, I found the interview process unprofessional almost from start to finish. So there was to be an interview with the IT manager (finally) the next day. However, as a working sysadmin, I have issues to deal with for the company currently paying me money to do so and one came up. I immediately let Watson know and gave them times I would be available to reschedule. After several days of no response, I asked them to withdraw my candidacy. If they cannot even value the time of the folks they are interviewing, I find it difficult to believe they would value the time and effort of their own employees.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

No technical questions to speak of besides "what is a subnet" asked by a project manager, who wouldn't have understood the definition anyway. It was at that moment I knew my time was being wsated.
