      Data Scientist Interview

      Application

I interviewed at Webster Bank (New York, NY)

      Interview

The first round is with a recruiter walking you through the interview process. Then a panel with hiring manager. They are slow to get back to you and you’ll probably have to look at the workday application update rather than to hear back from them

      Question 1

What are p values and describing them to a non technical audience.

      Interview

Overall, I had a very negative experience with this interview. The manager demonstrated shockingly poor communication skills. She spoke very quickly with a strong accent, making it difficult to follow, and her questions were not formulated clearly or concisely, which often left them sounding jumbled. The interview style felt more like a rapid-fire quiz, with questions scattered across topics rather than focused on assessing fundamental concepts or relevant skills. This approach did not make sense if one was attempting to evaluate core technical abilities. At one point, she corrected one of my responses. However, her correction was simply restating the same concept I had explained, using a specific term. This demonstrated a clear a lack of technical depth on her part. Overall, the interview process felt disorganized and unproductive, leaving me with a very poor impression of both the interviewer and the company.

What do you know about AUC, what is a lambda function, etc. Silly questions.

      Data Scientist Interview

      10 May 2022
      Anonymous employee
      Waterbury, CT
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Webster Bank (Waterbury, CT) in Apr 2022

      Interview

3 Rounds of Interview, first is an hour-long interview that goes over the role and interviews you on your past experience, DS knowledge, and many math questions. They also test your knowledge on overall DS, such as linear regression, SQL logic, and deep learning at least for me. 2nd round was a take-home technical which was the easiest part but it was an ambiguous task where they give you random requirements and you are tasked with your own creativity and overall coding knowledge to solve the task. The final round is with the Senior VP, and he just goes over behavioral and simple past experience questions to get to know you better and if you are a good fit for the team. The most annoying part was how long each round took in-between, the wait was long I had started the first interview in early April and was not done until the middle of May.

      Question 1

How do you know if two square matrices can be the same given you can perform any operations? Which Neural Networks are best for time-series data predictions between CNN, RNN, and MLP?
