      Social Media Manager Interview

      15 Aug 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Austin, TX
      No offer
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Wide Open Media

      Interview

Quite honestly, the strangest interview process I've been through. It took 2 weeks to set up the initial phone interview as the HR manager is based out of state while everyone else is in ATX. The second interview with the manager was AWFUL. He boasted that his employees are incredibly competitive with each other and made it seem like it was a wolf of Wallstreet-type job. He was also painfully informal. Furthermore, their websites have multiple broken links and they seem to be a farm for click-bait content. Avoid at all costs, don't waste your time.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Wide Open Media (Austin, TX) in Aug 2017

      Interview

2 weeks after I applied I received an email directly from a Director. He requested to meet and asked me a few questions. I was out of the state so I went through 2 rounds of interviews over the phone (the first 30 minutes and the second an hour). After the second interview I filled out a work project. It was fairly straightforward. They use their own Facebook pages and ask for feedback or new ideas. After I completed the work project, I emailed 2 days later to verify that they had received my finished assignment. No response. Several days after that, I called both contacts I had interviewed with and left voicemails expressing my interest in moving forward with the role. No response. Throughout this process they were aware I had another offer for a Social Media position here in Austin. I made it clear Wide Open was my first choice. I feel like things were progressing positively but never heard of them again. Overall, the radio silence at the end of the process made me feel like their work environment was not a place I wanted to work in anyways. Advice for management: don't ghost your candidates. Be clear and straightforward if they are not what you are looking for.
