I applied online. I interviewed at Worldpay (New York, NY) in Jun 2022
Interview
I got contacted by their recruiter back in June 2022, the role seemed similar to what I currently do so I applied.
There were 3 rounds of interviews. The first was just a quick chat with the recruiter, the second was an informal chat with the hiring manager, and the last interview was a zoom video call with various managers from their other locations and your hiring manager. Prior to the zoom call they make you write up a mock proposal answering a bunch of questions they created about their company, I guess this determines if you get the zoom call or not. Btw they will ask you to present your mock proposal during the interview too.
I would say if you’re naturally not outspoken this may feel intimidating to you as you’re being asked questions back to back by several people almost like a rapid fire round. But if you’re an extroverted person, this feels like a regular interaction. The difficulty isn’t in the questions itself but having to think on the spot. My advice is to practice through mock interview questions before attending this.
I got a call from the recruiter, about two days later saying they would like to extend me an offer, I agreed on the terms that I could seek a religious vaccine exemption (mind you this role is mostly remote) and asked whether there could be a potential that I could get a raise of $5k more. What I found strange is that the recruiter didn’t know if the company currently had a vaccine mandate in place as I’m aware of how many companies have scrapped it now. He said he would ask management and get back to me on this which is also strange because their job posting stated they offer religious and medical exemption on the bottom of the job posting. Not to mention it’s an individual’s right to not be discriminated against on religious or medical grounds. The other thing I want to mention is when the recruiter first contacted me, he stated a certain salary but when he gave me the offer, he subtracted $5k from that salary. So since I wasn’t asking for much more and just pretty much the same pay he initially offered me, he said it wouldn’t be a big deal.
The whole interaction above had left me feeling skeptical already. Anyway, a week passes by and I get no answer back regarding the religious exemption. I decided to reach out to the recruiter himself and he goes well sorry we decided to move on at this time with other candidates as we have a “strict vaccine mandate”.
Now I wasn’t sure if the recruiter decided to make his own call here so I decided to email corporate and HR, with no response back. Why have a customer service contact provided on your website when nobody will respond to it?
My advise to management: stop being deceitful. Take down the whole part about considering religious and medical vaccine exemptions when the management isn’t even willing to consider it.
Also, maybe take down the part about being an equal opportunity employer when you’re clearly not. I was discriminated against on religious grounds here.
If this is such an important factor to the company, the recruiter needs to bring it up in that first call so we aren’t wasting each others time.
Have the courtesy to reach out to someone who has invested their time into the interviewing process without them having to reach out to you.
I would not recommend this company to anyone.
