I was contacted via LinkedIn about a vague role which didn't exist yet. We discussed the role which I wasn't a fit for. They were looking for a senior manager and I am an IC with some management experience. I was asked if I wanted management or an IC position. I said I was open to both but they insisted I'd be a good fit for a manager. I had 3 different phone screens, feedback was provided within an hour each time. I was then invited to a 4 hour virtual onsite. The onsite was very comfortable and I walked away with a good feeling as many of the interview went over time. A few days passed and I heard nothing. I emailed the recruiter, who after 3 more days simply replied via email in 2 sentences stating they were looking for more management experience. I gave up 4 hours of my day for this interview, the least they could have done was given me a phone call to share the news. I'm not upset about not getting the job, I wasn't too sure about taking a management position in the first place but they seemed confident it was the right position for me. I am annoyed by the final experience and the lack of simple decency they showed when they were no longer interested. It was all butterflies and rainbows up until it wasn't.
