      Product Management Interview

      24 Jun 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Sunnyvale, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Yahoo (Sunnyvale, CA) in May 2018

      Interview

      - Referred by a friend - Call scheduled with a hiring manager - Recruiter arranged an on-site interview Overall this was one of the worst experiences I've seen, but that just validated that I shouldn't join the company. The recruiter only sent me form emails and never provided proper contact information. Those emails also did not contain sufficient information. I never got the recruiter's full name, which created problems. When I came on-site, I was asked who my recruiter is. I said I only have a first name. I was then rudely told that I should have asked for the last name. I politely explained that I had, but only had the recruiter's email and did not hear back when emailing with questions. I was then told that I should have called. I politely explained, again, that I never received a phone number. It was just a very odd conversation, with the person at the front desk being frustrated, while acknowledging that they encounter this issue all the time. I met a few good people, and others who clearly were just there for a paycheck. They literally didn't know what they were working on. Finally, after wrapping up, the recruiter came over and said that I just have a 15 minute rest time before the next interview. I was surprised, because the email stated the timeframe of the interview, to stop at 2pm, and she's casually having me interview more people not on schedule. I explained that I have to head out, as I still have consulting responsibilities for the day, and only agreed to the allotted time. The recruiter got angry with me, stating "but I scheduled other interviews!" I could only politely re-explain that I only set time according to what we agreed, and I would have had to be informed if a longer interview was needed. I don't understand why the recruiter intentionally communicated a shorter interview. Perhaps to incentivize me to interview, as Oath is having trouble bringing in candidates. But communication and lack of honesty in this process highlighted issues to come for Oath.
