They use interviews to get free consulting for their projects
Pros:
Interesting technical domain.
Cons:
The hiring process is a setup. They assigned a technical task based on a real, current project. After I submitted it, they set up a follow-up session to go over my solution. They were very impressed, kept saying how well I answered every single question, and basically used the session to get a deep-dive analysis of their own architecture issues. A month later, I got a generic rejection saying I lacked "deep expertise."
Advice to Management:
If you need expert solutions for your infrastructure projects, hire a consultant. Don’t use the interview process to trick senior engineers into fixing your technical debt for free. It’s incredibly unprofessional and transparent.
Comments:
If you get a take-home assignment from them, check if it’s a real production problem. If it is — don't waste your time or just give them a generic high-level overview. They aren't looking to hire, they are looking for free work.
