      Interview

After spending hours to do a test - they reject the application without even bothering providing feedback (and that despite the fact the test was well done and passing all the tests) - that is not a professional behavior and lacks respect for the time people invest in the process.

      Interview

I applied online for a remote only job. The next day i received a link to a coding test. You have to implement exactly one member function of a class. You have 9h time, but 3-4h are more than enough, if you're used to this problems. There are some restrictions and they must be fullfilled. These restrictions are not heard of by too many self declared c++ experts, but if you ever heard of the "gang of four", you know what they want. You can submit exactly 2 times. First time you get some hints, but no direction where you failed. after the second submit, you get the hint what test category failed with some examples. I failed with exact one restriction and it was the example... If i was more used to it, it would take me 3h. First submit around 5h with pauses and almost only reading cppreference. If you work in your current job on these topics, 1h is more than enough.... with tests. The coding page says, even before starting, that you should use an IDE with the outdated g++ 7.20 on C++17 that you want. I just used VSCode in WSL with a newer g++, but checked my code in godbolt to be 100% sure it compiles also on g++ 7.2.0. I can just say, write proper tests for your code. Don't assume your types work with your restrictions, prepare your environment prior. In the end I failed, but I can definitly say, it is possible, not "trivial" as the text says, but it's also more than doable. In the context of the salaries, it is even somehow easy.

Dear Candidate, Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding our recruitment process. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed it. As we are looking for outstanding developers, indeed the test tasks require quite some thinking and a non-trivial approach. On the other hand, these tests demonstrate the problems our developers face on a daily basis and give a potential candidate the possibility to learn more about the work process at think-cell. We are sad to hear that your solution did not pass through but at the same time we wish you all the best in your career development. Best wishes, think-cell HR team

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and feedback. We’re sorry to hear that you found the process frustrating, especially considering the time and effort you invested. We understand how important it is for candidates to feel that their work is acknowledged and respected. We understand that not receiving detailed feedback can create the impression that your effort was not fully recognized. However, providing specific feedback on the assessment would compromise the integrity of our evaluation process and our ability to apply it consistently to all candidates. We appreciate your understanding in this regard. Best regards, People Team

First it was a coffee chat and then a 10h technical assesment, without any feedback for their side. It was frustrating because after investing a lot of time, they don't even tell you nothing.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience and feedback. We’re sorry to hear that the process felt frustrating. We aim to create a recruitment experience that is both fair and respectful of candidates’ time. Our technical test is designed to assess problem-solving skills in a realistic way and help us identify the strong technical abilities required to maintain the high standards of think-cell’s products. The platform allows up to 10 hours to complete the task to give candidates flexibility, for example to take breaks if needed. In practice, many candidates complete and submit their solutions within around 2–4 hours. Regarding feedback, we also understand that not receiving detailed comments on a submission can feel disappointing. Unfortunately, providing specific feedback on the assessment would compromise the integrity of our evaluation process and our ability to continue using this test consistently with all candidates. We appreciate your understanding on this matter. Best regards, People Team
