Description CopperCom helps customers make the switch to next-generation telephone networks. The company makes software-based switches, or softswitches, and other products that enable advanced services such as voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). The company markets its products primarily to small, independent phone companies. Customers have included Chillicothe Telephone, Iowa-based OmniTel, and Oklahoma-based Shidler Telephone. The company, which struggled through the telecom downturn, filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization in June 2003 and was acquired by Heico, a Chicago-based buyout firm, in October of that year.
