Pro-Tec Coating is one of the world's largest, continuous, hot-dipped galvanizing, and galvannealing production facilities. The company provides customers in the automotive industry, as well as other heavy manufacturing markets (notably home appliances), with coated sheet metal. In 2007 Pro-Tec Coating won the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, one of five recipients that year for the annual awards given by the US Department of Commerce, and the only one in the small business category for 2007. Pro-Tec Coating, founded in 1990, is a joint venture co-owned by United States Steel and Kobe Steel.
