Big Mistake

Pros

Good office location and some friendly faces in the office.

Cons

Poor office culture and horrible morale. There's a lot of yelling and employees constantly being reprimanded publicly. It's the type of company where you're afraid to make a mistake, even though you are human, because you know you will be reprimanded. Everyone walks around on egg shells, even upper management does in fear of the President. Their systems and software are archaic and out of date but nothing can be changed because they won't spend the money. I heard about their reputation before I took the job but didn't believe everything I heard- it's all true and then some. Please do your research before joining this company and talk to any and everyone you know that has worked there or knows someone who worked there. If I listened to what I heard, I never would have taken this job.

Pros

There are no pro's to this company. Unless you are unemployed and destitute, do not leave your current job for this one. Everything, from cost of benefits to the way you will be treated, is a blatant lie or "lie by omission". Save yourself the headache and don't interact with this level of conducting business.

Cons

Everything...take your pick: treated poorly, an atmosphere of being watched at all times, fake attempts from management to "engage" folks. This company needs to start over.

Cancerous Environment - Steer Clear!

Pros

The fact that the office is conveniently located to other reputable firms that you can interview with. The best thing you can do when you start at AKAM is to look for a way out of AKAM.

Cons

The red flags were all there, please listen to them! You will love working here if: - You've given up on your hopes and dreams - You enjoy being verbally harassed by senior management - Career advancement means nothing to you - Love being reminded by the president of the company that he is in fact, the president You're set up for failure before you even step foot through the door on your first day. You should expect to dedicate at least 3 hours of your day when interviewing at this company, with two of those hours spent twiddling your thumbs and waiting for the Executive to arrive at the conference room. At this point, I should have gotten up and left, but I didn't. Don't let the beautiful reception area fool, you. It's about the only thing beautiful in the office, apart from the signs pointing to the exit. But only take one look at the face of any employee and you'll have a better understanding of how Senior Management treat their employees. Verbal harassment is a norm at AKAM! It's a known fact that the best way to motivate an employee is to publicly denounce them during a Monday morning meeting. There's a certain Executive that truly has a way with words, and none of them are positive. One look into his bloodshot eyes and you'll know you've made the wrong career choice. The amount of turnover at the company is astounding. In some instances, employees only last days, if not a couple of weeks. HR is practically non-existent, and the majority of new policies are announced by either The President or his puppets. There is no overtime pay whether you work 45 hours a week or 35 hours a week, so why try? Finally, if you're looking to support your family with health insurance, you're better off going to market . The cost of family health insurance is around $1,200 per PAY PERIOD, with astronomical deductibles. Steer clear!
