Pros

The benefits are good. Like most places, your job satisfaction depends a lot on what department you are in and who your immediate supervisor is.

Cons

The CEO and executive management are running this place to the ground. Way too many executive managers are eating up the budget with huge salaries. This year, we have a projected $12 million operating deficit. Last year, only a select few employees received a salary increase. All of this is happening during very good economic times. Some of the working environments are toxic because of unreasonable management demands and bullying. APA responds to these situation by offering classes on how to deal with difficult people and how to deal with stress.

Pros

Convenient location for mass transit and restaurants.

Cons

Everything else. Stay well clear of the journals department; the current Journals Publisher isn't fit to run a flea circus, much less multi-million dollar journals program.

Pros

The Paid TIme Off is incredible.

Cons

There are many.... too many to count or address in the limited space that I have here to experess myself. If you accept a job at the APA, be expected to have no voice or ability to express concern for things that you have prior experience doing or have had success with in your other roles. The APA holds the notion that even though you have had many years of successful experience prior to being hired, the APA knows best - and will fundamentally crush your soul. Aside from that, forget about asking anyone for advice or additional training. It is not provided. You are given a basic overview of the role, told a few things and expected to immediately start closing business - for products that have not been completely developed.... This was my experience and may have changed, but I doubt it. Oh, and don't bother to speak with Human Resources about any of the issues that you may have, as they are completely and utterly inept.
