Pros

I have been working as a content creator for this company for years and it’s one of my favourite contracts. The work is interesting and not stressful.

Cons

I wish it wasn’t seasonal and I could work here full-time

Pros

- Work was enjoyable and co-workers were extremely fun to work with - Strong work/life balance (company offers several perks such as lieu time for overtime work and generous vacation policy) - Company has a generous education fund and encourages you to grow in your own field or take classes of your interests - Management enforces an ethical culture - Not sure about other teams, but in software development team, you have a lot of freedom and support to explore and implement different tech stacks - Cross team conversations were strongly encouraged when we were in the office

Cons

- 9-5 company i.e you can put in minimal effort and get by - If you don't agree with senior management on strategies and work related topics, your path to career progression is limited - Promotions are skewed across teams - some folks get promoted extremely fast and some folks don't get promoted for years. This has also led to inflated titles for individuals who have been at the company. - Bureaucracy amongst teams - As a growing company there's definitely some "red tape" amongst teams and team members. To resolve issues, teams tend to create more processes rather than fixing the problem. - Due to the nature of the company, it can get really hard to challenge co-workers on work related tasks or decisions. - Diversity and inclusion sometimes seems like a facade. Yes, company strongly encourages hiring of minorities and embraces ethnic culture and celebrations. They also support employees speaking up on cultural movements and frequently donate to organizations that help bring cultural movements forward. However, when it comes to levelling up internally, especially for upper management, it seems like caucasian folks are preferred over minorities.

Pros

Really amazing coworkers - everyone truly is a delight to work with! I love my immediate team, and whenever I interface with people from other teams I am very grateful the company hires and attracts such excellent individuals. Fantastic benefits and generous vacation policy! Everyone is very encouraging about taking enough time off, and making time to benefit from the professional and personal development funds. The company is also working on clearer career development paths and implementing transparent pay bands. Exciting trajectory! Last year, the company had acquired and merged with another company and it took some time to understand how to adapt both to the increased scope and size. The larger company recently rebranded to reflect these changes, increased scope, and path forward, and there is a clearer sense of identity. I am genuinely excited to see what the future holds! Appreciative and considerate of feedback! Since the start of the year, Acuity has noticeably improved its initiative planning and communication across teams. Personally (and especially in my team), I feel like my insights are taken into account and I can see how actionable steps are taken as a result.

Cons

Navigating the fast growth of the company (as well as the 2022 economic climate) has been difficult. The company, like many other fast growing startups, has seen a lot of turnover. I love working remotely and for me, the fact that Acuity is remote-first is a great advantage! However, this can lead to feelings of being isolated / siloing. Slack/Zoom are not the same as just asking someone a quick question in person.

Pros

- great people in non-leadership positions, who genuinely care about each other - flexible work schedule and remote since COVID-19 - there is work/life balance - strong professional development fund - RRSP matching - you get a lot of independence and the work is challenging

Cons

- the company requests feedback, then when given honest reviews (like some from this year) the response is to ask current employees to write more "honest" (aka: positive) reviews on here to counter. The problem is, that was an honest review that leadership and people and culture, should take seriously. - leadership lacks strong communication skills, has a hard time taking feedback and incorporating it. - Altus culture has been negatively impacted since moving remote, since a lot of our workplace culture was dependent on being in the same office and the majority of the people at Altus are genuinely amazing. Not a lot is being done about it aside from TinyPulse surveys currently, where feedback is seen as negative if it's not "everything is great!" - like any tech company, these cons are scaling problems, but the leadership team seems more interested in keeping a 4+ star rating instead of listening to the feedback and learning from the current team internally. - not a lot of growth opportunities - "we're all ops, we're all sales" - we were recently asked to "lean in" to whatever was asked of us, which caused a lot of pressure and unwarranted stress.

Pros

- Company is filled with wonderful and caring people who are true team players. A fun and collegial atmosphere with frequent interaction with other stakeholders - Good oversight and support from managers - Great onboarding experience - Good work/life balance - Generous benefits and generous vacation - The company has handled the covid-induced remote transition very well, and has done many things to concretely demonstrate concern for employees in these challenging times - Generous allowance for personal/professional development - Both pro and a con; everyone is encouraged to occasionally pitch in to assist with certain operational activities. On the upside, this gives a sense of connection to the mission of the company, fosters a sense of camaraderie, and adds variety to one's routine - The dev perspective is always welcome in broader discussions regarding product. Great leadership on tech team - Devs work with a variety of interesting technologies; the stack is fairly modern (but there's room for improvement in this regard) - Company is very financially stable, and is growing quickly

Cons

- Product suffers from a serious 'too many cooks in the kitchen' problem; the dev/product team is responsible for delivering solutions that aim to satisfy a massive variety of stakeholders, both internal and external (and the objectives of these stakeholders are not always aligned with one another). As such, the dev/product team has to contend with tons of noise, has to deal with rapidly shifting priorities, and often has to deliver highly customized and non-scalable solutions. There is new leadership on the tech team so there is some cause for optimism regarding these issues. - The downside of having to pitch in with various operational activities is that it could be considered a distraction from developing in one's role - The company is very vocal about DEI matters, but has conspicuously non-diverse leadership
