Pros

Learn how to skillfully fleece customers daily to get a big payout from foreign vulture capitalists

Cons

DISCLAIMER: The sentiments expressed below are those of a disgruntled, worthless, loser of a former employee and do not represent fact - they are merely in his opinion. It's important to recognize that the billionaire foreign corporation is your friend, and the blue collar workers you talk to every day are the actual greedy parasites. SCAMMING CUSTOMERS - has this happened to you? - When I started there, we had two nearly identical versions of our software... we'll call them versions X and Y for the purposes of this post. X had a known bug that once enough data was entered, it could corrupt and take your systems down. Y did not have the bug. For years, I was given many projects to install Version X for our customers despite Y being fully functional. Why? 1) We could SELL you support time to fix the data (a temporary fix, it will corrupt again) 2) We could SELL you an additional utility to fragment your data into smaller blocks (and make it much more obtuse to access) 3) We could just SELL you an upgrade to Version Y. I advocated to stop selling X and upgrade existing users for free for years, which fell on deaf ears. - I’d often receive projects where my customers expected certain capabilities of our software for their project needs. Customers were told by sales team members they could do something, but they hadn’t quoted / sold them the more expensive version they needed to actually do it. A bait and switch tactic to acquire the customer and then hit them with additional cost after they’re already invested, installed, and trained. - The company acquired a lot of its install base by pitching projects / support costs far below that of our competition. This was part of a short-term push to inflate our numbers so that the company would look attractive to foreign investors. Once the vultures swooped in, our customers were hit with double or triple the fees. With our proprietary hardware and software installed on site, were our customers going to accept the rate hike, or spend tens or hundreds of thousands to replace it all? Another bait and switch game. MANIPULATING EMPLOYEES - Upon hiring, employees at AWS were told they didn’t get retirement, overtime, etc. in favor of an end-of-year lump sum to “give us the freedom to invest as we see fit”. Except that in 2021 that lump sum just disappeared into the ether and when asking about it was told to not poke the bear. A cumulative hundreds of thousands promised to the working class employees, sent to billionaires. - When moving due to family military service, I was told I needed to become a contractor to keep my job, as their business wasn’t "set up" to pay out-of-state taxes. I informed them due to the 2009 Military Spouses Residency Relief Act, I would retain my residency in our home state throughout my absence. They still insisted, and I was instructed to falsify my role to make it look legitimate on their filings. Now I was responsible for my own employer tax burden, not my employer. I was told that this was only temporary, until they were able to hire staff and move me to a new role we’d agreed on. It was not temporary - new staff was hired, I was left in place doing two jobs at once. - When the vultures swooped in, our team members were told not to worry and that business would continue as usual. Instead, the support team was cut in half, while the support charges to customers more than doubled. Low wage replacements for team members were hired, and long-term members, designers, etc. were fired shortly after the newbies were onboarded. The people who’d worked passionately for years to build the company up and fight for positive solutions and change were put out to pasture in favor of gouging customers and selling out. DISCRIMINATION - In 2022 I informed management that I required surgery and physical therapy appointments for a disability I’d had my entire life (diagnosed officially in 2007), and which they’d known about since my hiring. 2 hours later I was terminated. Prior to that I had been given several raises, projects, and affirmations of expanding roles… up until expressing a medical need. - In the office, several non-caucasian team members were often incorrectly addressed by each other's names, given European-heritage nicknames instead, etc. “I can’t keep you guys straight” was a common sentiment expressed amidst awkward laughter. I never had an issue remembering their names, identifying them correctly, or laughed at these situations.
