Pros
Awesome coworkers in my section. Best work-life balance anywhere. Supervisor and Manager are amazing. Quick-paced work, despite being government, so things stay interesting. Going on inspections to facilities. Some of the best health & insurance benefits in the state, including group vision, cancer, dental, and life insurance policies. One of the last remaining and legally GUARANTEED pension plan. PTO for state and federal holidays. BEST JOB SECURITY & STABILITY IN THE ENTIRE SOUTHEAST!!
Cons
Pay is a good bit less than private sector environmental engineering/consulting. Upper management are (in general) quite old, entrenched in the this-is-how-we've-always-done-things mindset. As a result, occasionally met with stuff resistance to changes, even if they improve current procedures/protocols. Promotional opportunities are few and far between, especially if you want a certain section/division, and the internal politics that come with it are...ludicrous. Montgomery kinda sucks for now...but it's slowly improving.
