Management is fine. Work life balance is good.

Pros
- Great people and culture. You'll probably love your co-workers and make good friends. - Great work-life balance. With the exception of some teams (video) and the archaic deployment processes (wee-hours of every Monday morning), you can develop your skills and coast in a low pressure environment. - Good comp for entry-level software engineers. - Good job security. - The HQ office has some neat amenities if you're into that.
Cons
- Largely mandated return to office (currently 3x a week, 1 of which is to be Monday or Friday). - Weak compensation starting at mid-level. Capital One in the area or any remote tech company will give significantly better comp. - Deal with a lot of internal politics starting at mid-level. - Good performance doesn't get you promoted faster. - Outdated and poorly built tech stack. Pumping out features is almost always a priority over maintenance and planning. You likely won't learn good software practices here and introducing them can be difficult. Different teams may follow vastly different style and design practices. Hotfixes are common and something is on fire pretty often. - Executive level is cashing out with constant stock sales. Look up ALRM insider activity, executives regularly sell hundreds to thousands of shares (note that employee comp packages will typically grant ~1000 RSUs over a 5 year period). It doesn't inspire confidence. - The entire company has a bus factor of 2. - Bleeding engineering talent. There are a lot of people leaving, likely due to some of the above.

Pros
People actually enjoy hanging out
Cons
Workload can be demanding, but it's all depending on the season
- Former Employee, more than 5 years★★★★★
Pros
-Alarm is a great place to start your career, and build experience. I made several lifetime friends working there. -Medical being 100% covered for the employee is great -Flat org means not a lot of middle management to get in the way, decisions can be made quickly in relation to other companies of this size
Cons
-Mid/senior career salaries are well below average -Former microstrategy in all leadership. If you get a new person on your team that is from microstrategy, they will most likely get promoted ahead of you. -Flat org also means not a whole lot of room to grow in your career -Forcing people to come back to the office 3 days a week even though productivity didnt suffer.

Pros
fun cool people good WLB cool hq
Cons
I don't think there are any cons
- Current Employee, less than 1 year★★★★★
Pros
Good benefits, salary, culture, time-off
Cons
could be better in DEI initiatives and employee wellness.
- Former Employee, more than 3 years★★★★★
Pros
- Fantastic WLB, hard deadlines are extremely rare - People are pleasant and easy to work with - Good place for a first job. The company is good at onboarding fresh graduates and the pay for a new grad is competitive - Office has a cool / fun design - Products are pretty cool with home automation devices - Business model is stable - Job security is very high
Cons
- Execs are forcing return to office (RTO). Mandatory 3 days/week. Talent is leaving rapidly due to this. - Engineering can't hold on to senior employees due to compensation and RTO - Compensation becomes extremely uncompetitive after you reach mid level - Technologies used are often outdated and/or niche. I don't know any serious tech company that uses Ember.js as their primary frontend - No real incentive to work hard or pursue upward trajectory. Promotions seem to be mostly based on seniority. You'll get a better return on your effort by studying for interviews and leaving rather than working for a promo

Pros
Great people with a passion for what they do.
Cons
Sometimes falls prey to the downsides of working for a larger company and use some dated technology
- Former Employee, more than 3 years★★★★★
Pros
The mission of the company is definitely good. Security, monitoring, and access solutions for homes and businesses gives peace of mind during uncertain times.
Cons
Leadership is petty and power hungry. They create fiefdoms and jealously guard them. Anyone who threatens that power gets attacked, undermined, and tossed aside.
