Pros

New Apple gear, friendly co-workers. Good place for the inexperienced to gain experience.

Cons

If you are thinking about applying for a customer service role at AlgaeCal and are thinking that this company seems too good to be true... you are correct. This is not an attack on the individuals working at this company, simply an honest review intended to give an accurate depiction on what it was like working for AlgaeCal. Here are some of the cons: No clear directives, lack of leadership from top management, changing priorities, highly political environment, highly unprofessional behaviour from some managers, unclear communication from the top down, lack of transparency, lack of respect for employees, no trust between employees and management, low wages causing low morale. CEO and COO specifically have poor leadership skills and do not inspire confidence. If you enjoy working with little to no autonomy and enjoy talking on the phone for 8-10 hours per day with elderly clientele about their medical history, bowel movements, political views, etc. then this is the job for you. If not, I would sincerely recommend continuing your job search.

Pros

• There are wonderful people who work here, it’s a welcoming and friendly environment for the most part. • I suggest applying if you‘re looking to get your foot in the door and gain experience at your first office job. • There is room for growth, as AlgaeCal has been expanding rapidly the past few years. • You’ll learn a lot, and that will likely be supported through online courses, conferences, etc. If you’re interested in natural healing, nutrition, etc, you’ll gain a lot of knowledge in a customer service role. • The product is fantastic — it works. And it’s gratifying to hear about customers positive results. • There are fun team trips to parts of BC and Cabo.

Cons

• You will not be paid well, despite claims that pay is above market value. • I experienced sexism/discrimination, gaslighting, and bullying toward myself and others from company leaders. • Top leadership is inauthentic and lack empathy, and use manipulative tactics to portray a false image of positivity and support. • Genuine feedback and open communication is nonexistent. Team members have learned if you go against the grain, you risk putting your job on the line – there is a fear-based culture.

It is a nightmare

Pros

You get free lunch sometimes.

Cons

I worked for this company and unfortunately, I cannot recommend it. The management displayed shameless favoritism, and some employees (close with the management) were given preferential treatment while others were ignored or even punished for minor mistakes. This created a toxic work environment where there was a lot of animosity between employees and a general sense of distrust toward management. In addition, there was a lot of mental harassment and bullying that went unchecked. Some managers would publicly humiliate employees for not meeting unrealistic expectations, and there was no support or resources provided to help employees deal with the stress and anxiety that came with the bullying. Management is happy to blame juniors and lie to avoid any responsibility of their decisions. The company also showed hypocrisy at every opportunity it got, as they claimed to value their employees but would often prioritize profit over the wellbeing of their workers. They would make promises about bonuses, promotions, and other incentives but rarely followed through with them, leaving many employees feeling unappreciated and undervalued. The “Oh, this-company-is-great” reviews here you find are obviously fake. The employees are micro-managed, and they have to write them periodically on company’s command to keep their job. I witnessed high-performing employees constantly getting fired for no reason. There have been bulk-firings as well. I would not recommend this company to anyone looking for a supportive and fair work environment. But, if you have no roof on your head and no food on your plate, you can join it for a short time to find a better solution very soon. Any other reason is unjustified in my opinion because you will be underpaid, waste your time and lose the will to succeed.
