Pros

Its better to sit at home then to work at Astex!

Cons

No work ethics, favoritism, no value for talent, department politics, no work life balance. Unrealistic targets and everlasting shortage of staff forces people to work like machines. No wonder nobody wants to join this company.

Dysfunctional and Fear Driven

Pros

It hasn't gone out of business yet.

Cons

Upper Management is extremely vague when it comes to their corporate philosophy and values. There are only a few stakeholders who drive decisions for the entire organization. Townhall masks as an outlet where employees can express their concerns when in reality, will not be implemented. The archaic processes or mentality is what has kept this company from approving any new drugs in the past decade.

Worst company to work for

Pros

401K contribution is 10% match which gets vested over the period of 4 years.

Cons

The people who stay at Astex are ones living in the East Bay or are waiting for the retirement. There is no respect for the individual contributors who actually do the work. The Human Resource is the most useless I have ever encountered in any company I have worked in. They are just lazy and sycophants of the executives. They do not even care to talk to individual contributors. Most of the managers / directors are like weasels either looking for their own benefit or waiting for the retirement. So my advice to people thinking about applying is to just "run" and do not waste your time.
