Internal Audit - Avoid

Recommend

Business outlook

Pros

- Good pay & benefits - 31 days of holidays per year - Approachable management

Cons

Note that the list below is only relevant to Internal Audit under its current leadership. I cannot express an opinion on other departments. - Be treated like a child no matter how many years of experience you may have under your belt. - Nothing is ever good enough. Be prepared to redo things 100 times without ever receiving proper explanations on what is expected (or ever changing expectations). - No opinions allowed, just do what you are told. - Micromanagement to an insane degree (e.g. requiring approval to send an email).

Pros

A great place for anyone starting their career, has no life, no commitments, no friends or family & are happy to work all hours, weekends & overtime (and not be paid for it). To get experience on their CV and move on to a proper professional company. Great for anyone who is willing to tolerate being spoken to in a condesending or derogatory manner.

Cons

Bullying toxic culture. No work life balance. No career progression or growth. Goal setting, performance reviews and management feedback is not done & is completed at end of year as a tick the box exercise. Loose good staff who are not appreciated and undervalued & leave as a result. Company growing at a rate that they can't keep up with. High turnover of staff and infrastructure which cannot support this growth. Same projects with same mistakes, not learning from these mistakes or taking feedback & thus costing company millions. Anything goes wrong, the finger pointing exercise starts and staff get fired. No continuity or sharing of knowledge. HR are a laughable department, no assistant to staff and they sit & witness questionable behaviours.

Pros

Athora has great potential but sadly falls way short. The location is good, but the office is way below par. People are mostly friendly and helpful, but senior management will look through you as if you're not there. They try to get people engaged with social events, which is a good way to meet people outside your own team, but it's all outside office hours.

Cons

Management just want to play the blame game. Do anything wrong? Don't bow to the top brass? You won't last long. There's no real support, you're thrown in the deep end and expected to get on with it. You can work 24/7 doing your best work, but unless you bow down to senior management telling them how wonderful they are, you won't get any recognition / payrise/ promotion. If MEC don't deliver the staff get their bonus cut, no matter how well they delivered in their own role.
