It was good to me while I was there, but overall sort of a mess
Pros
Atomic is a unique environment because you're exposed to the true nature of what it takes for companies to be dreamed, tested and launched. I worked on the Atomic team supporting the portfolio companies which gave me a depth of experience supporting companies in various industries. Overall, that is valuable exposure. Other perks included working from home once a week and having the flexibility to take time off when needed. Also, the health care plan was superb.
Cons
There's a lot that happens behind closed doors that would be important to share with the core supporting team, but never really was. The founder of Atomic locks himself away in his office and seems very secretive. Ego runs rampid in this office and it is very male-dominated. Diversity of thought, gender, sexual orientation and skin-tone are lacking. A large number of founders and founders in residence (FIR's), etc all have similar backgrounds, ie: worked at Uber, went to Wharton, etc. The Atomic team itself was vastly understaffed, overworked and underappreciated, with founders of the portfolio companies demanding more work from us than we could humanly provide, leaving us out of important conversations, and often disregaring or throwing members of our team under the bus just to save themselves.
