Pros

-Work/life balance - flexible with kids, appointments, bad weather -Ability to work from home - frequency depends on department & job -Tuition assistance -Pension plan -BILD classes - on-site development classes to enhance learning in various areas -Allow you to use work time for conference or professional development

Cons

-Career paths are not defined for every job family (they are working on this) -No formal mentoring program for individual contributors -External candidates beat our internal candidates a lot of times for positions -We have to hire management+ positions from external candidates - we lack a formalized bench strength program in ALL areas

Pros

There are a lot of hard-working, intelligent folks working at BJC. They carry a sense of pride in everything that they do, which in turn does a great job inspiring their peers to work hard as well.

Cons

The lack of communication throughout the entire organization is appalling, to say the very least. It starts from the very top and trickles down to the very bottom. Over 100 employees were laid off without notice, with no explanation other than a typical canned response about downsizing. They value money, not employees. It's sad to see one of St. Louis' most trusted healthcare organizations transforming into nothing more than a greedy monopoly. Overall, the moral compass of this company is so broken, I'm surprised half of the senior leadership team can find their way to work in the morning. They prey on fear of their subordinates losing their jobs, and use it to strong arm them into compliance. My advice is to stay far away until the internal issues at this organization are corrected.

Pros

Depending on you leadership, you have the flexibility and backing. Work / life balance depends on who you report to.

Cons

IT Employee's were told there will be new jobs, however a large amount of people are not qualified for their existing roles. When asked if the requirements are hard requirements the answer you get is yes. Communication to employees are not very clear and varies between managers. Pay scale is low, job security... there isn't at this point. In the past months skill, talented and valued employees have left leaving things in a disarray and other staff left picking up the slack. IT vision will impact clinical employees and patient care.
