Pros

The management and leads are very good with the employees.

Cons

The company does not tell you everything that's important to keeping this job before you are hired. You have to pass a major testing process before you are actually put out on the job.You have to be OQ certified before you can go out in the field to work with natural gas.The problem with this is you are going through the same testing that a Columbia Gas employee has to go through but you are getting paid way less. This is at least bare minimum 20.00 an hour job. They start you at 16.00.If you do manage to pass the tests and you are out in the field you have to deal with a lot of dangerous situations. You are knocking on doors randomly in very scetchy nieborhoods and you are walking behind houses at times looking for gas meters with potential dogs or angry customers coming from out of nowhere.I know this because I have been in encounters with both. One situation were I was threatened to be shot. Also shutting people's gas off with children in the house. So okay they are behind but it's not the children's fault they are in this situation. And it may only be over 100.00 gas bill.So it's very stressful a lot of the times.Bermex also expects you to complete 32 to 35 jobs a day..And a lot of times they are not next door to each other. So breaks are not even on the picture.Even though you are supposed to have two 15 minute breaks and a half hour lunch. Its not going to happen unless you get very lucky and you get more collections then shut offs.No overtime so forget that..That's the only good thing is you work a half day on Friday. You do get paid for the whole day. Also you have to take several tests a month. Not just with Bermex but with Niscource too.So you have to find time for that.Oh not to mention you have to do your own time sheets every week in order to get paid.So they basically squeeze about every cent of that 16.00 an hour out of you they can..And as far as advancements? My lead who trained me was up to 18.00 and he has been there close to 10 years.. Bottom line this is not a very good job unless you are desperate for a job.Its very misleading.By the way I was never late,I never called off and after 2 and a half months of busting total butt they laid off multiple people because they were not willing to pay what little everyone was making because they didn't want to pay for just doing collections until the end of the year.

Pros

Freedom of working on your own.

Cons

Had to drive personal vehicle. Management was unreliable and did not communicate well. Lowest pay for a Columbia Gas contractor. No possibility for advancement.

Not many, company car is newer model

Cons

Work you to the bone with no acknowledgement and tends to terminate people out of the blue with management all being super secretive
