Good pay, toxic culture

Pros

- Pay is good. - Free lunches that are good.

Cons

- Growth at the expense of everything. Code quality is awful. Upper management claims to care about quality but actions speak louder than words. - Very aggressive, inconsiderate culture where inappropriate and unprofessional comments and behavior run rampant. - Terrible work life balance is not just tolerated, but actively encouraged and celebrated.

Pros

The pro is this review because I can't think of a single pro except for the monthly WFH stipend.

Cons

This was the worst job I've ever had in my entire life. The work culture is so toxic and cutthroat, people will step over everyone, cross every line, and lie to hit quota. It's every SDR for themselves, you can't trust anyone (including the managers) because it's so unorganized that no one ever has any idea of what's going on. The favoritism is so apparent that every SDR may as well have a sign on their back - I've never seen anything like it. The "favorites" can get away with just about anything (skipping meetings, not hitting daily KPIs, etc), but if you're not a favorite - watch out. You will be held under a microscope and get pinged from your manager constantly. The workload is beyond unattainable in an 8-hour workday; OT is expected every single day (which has been explicitly said in sales org meetings). The sales team has become a sinking ship with no morale, and leadership has threatened and instilled fear into everyone. ^ on top of all, SDRs are so extremely underpaid and the base salary said during the hiring process is not what you'll actually be making. It's not a livable wage and everyone else I know is making $25k+ more than I did working at Brex.

First, we are sorry to hear about your experience. We take feedback about our culture seriously and are constantly evaluating ways to improve the employee experience. The Sales organization at Brex has undergone changes to become more aligned, organized, and focused on Brex’s mission. We recognize we set a high bar for performance, and in doing so have created multiple resources to support and foster employee success, such as career competencies, mentorship programs, and trainings. In addition to providing feedback via our culture surveys, we also encourage our employees to utilize the People team as a resource to help remedy any internal issues and surface concerns in real-time. We wish you all the best.

Pros

a few good eggs that validate mutual woes and challenges and do not mask their delusion to meet team and individual quotas as overly positive “encouragement” and genuinely try to lend a helping hand, company offsite events that happen 2-3 times a year to connect with people, $200 monthly wfh stipend

Cons

-unequipped, under-qualified, and emotional unintelligent management that frequently contradicts themselves and plays favorites with sdrs that drink the kool aid instead of finding ways to boost moral for the majority.. -sdrs have been told for months that there will be “opportunities for growth” around their one year mark and yet its been nothing but crickets from upper management .. -quotas are laughably unattainable unless you want to be apart of the few that work 14 hour days in order to make that extra $1.5k a month… - due to the above, team moral is abysmal and burnt out. there is no sense of strong leadership or direction, team all hands feel performative and disingenuous, and since a bulk of the sdrs were fresh out of college upon being hired there is no empathy for empty promises leaving many feeling trapped til they can secure a promotion that may never come no matter how much they schmooze… -constant changes with either very little to no heads up at all and an unrealistic expectation to stay on the same page .. -frequent crashes+bugs+work arounds that waste time..

First, thank you for sharing. We truly aim to create positive employee experiences for all our team members, and we’re sorry to have let you down in that respect. We recognize in a hyper-growth, start-up environment like Brex where we’re always evolving our Go-to-Market team, things can move quickly. We know we can do an even better job of directly communicating the decision-making behind our goals, and provide individuals with even greater role clarity and awareness of the growth paths available. We have recently rolled out role competencies and career paths as resources for both contributors and managers on the Sales Development team to drive consistency around performance and expectations and really empower you to own your career goals. We are constantly working to iterate as we continue to mature as a company, and your feedback will be considered. Thank you again for helping us improve.
