Pros

The most positive thing about this place is that all jobs from now on will be an improvement.

Cons

It was always interesting to see how long it took a new employee to lose their enthusiasm with Bulk. The average was two weeks. Skilled people are hired and then micro managed by their department heads who are ultimately micro managed by a control freak owner who seriously thinks he can do everybody’s job better. Jobs are advertised with 15% bonus potential; however 10% is the maximum and the most given out in the four years of its inception is 1%- and that was after hitting 100% profit target and 95% turnover target. Because of the micro management, the longer you work at Bulk, the less skilled you will be and ultimately unemployable. Long term, loyal employees get little to no pay rises, whilst new employees with less experience get hired for substantially more. Training and development is extremely limited. High end output is expected with low end equipment and requests to improve on equipment is met with disdain. Holiday is the bare minimum, hours are long, there is no overtime pay but you are expected to work extra, working from home is absolutely not allowed. ‘Perks’ consist of a standard out of the box corporate package offering a few quid off cinema tickets. Even the staff discount is less than what the customers get. From the outside, Bulk looks like it would be a great place to work. From the inside, morale is low, working conditions are thirty years out of date and this place will burn you out.

A work place tragedy

Pros

The people who work here are incredibly talented and hard working WeWork Office Space

Cons

The best way to sum up Bulk Powders is tragic. It has talented and diverse staff, it is in an exciting and rapidly growing industry, and it is performing exceptionally well. Unfortunately, in spite of all of this, this is not a good place to work. Staff are completely and utterly underappreciated and berated, and there is zero appreciation for the countless team members who go above and beyond the call of duty because they have a legitimate passion for this industry. The company is run in a "Trump-esque" manner, where the one at the top is always right, even when the facts show otherwise. These concerns are not exactly a secret as can be seen from the previous reviews left, however the ones with the power to change it seem to be unable or unwilling to accept that this is a legitimate and damming issue that is causing an alarmingly high turnover rate.

Thank you for your feedback. We really do value this and along with the feedback we get from current employees and during exit interviews - we're using them to keep improving. We're making some great hires in leadership at the moment and we have more to come. We have recently recruited a great Head of Brand, a brilliant Head of Acquisition, a new eCommerce Director joining in May and we're actively recruiting for Finance Director. Having been with the business for 4 months as Head of People, I'm working hard with our leadership team to make this a great place to work.

A sinking ship to avoid

Pros

- Offices in WeWork - International team

Cons

- Massive lack of communication and respect from top management, who is led by a quite incompetent founder obsessed with control who doesn't have any respect towards the people that work hard for the company and who blocks any initiative HR is trying to implement to retain employees - Benefits package is ridiculous (minimum legal holiday allowance, no flexible working allowed, bonus advertised at up to 15% when last year 1% of it was given even though targets were hit, customers get a higher discounts on products than employees, no sick pay, no insurance, salary reviews happen only once a year and pay rises, if you're lucky to have one, are just an inflation adjustment and they do not reflect your hard work and performance at all) - Zero training opportunities and budget to develop, but you can definitely learn how a business should not be run - Staff turnover is very high in both Colchester and London offices with people resigning every other week. The general atmosphere has massively deteriorated in the last few months, with the majority of staff being extremely unmotivated due to management actions - Professional, nice and very skilled people are hired to then get micro managed or be considered just translators - Very limited progression and learning opportunities within the company - Salaries are low as compared to the rest of the industry and are based on when you were hired, not on your results or expertise
