Pros

1. Lots of fund raising. 2. Opportunity to learn about the various techniques that some companies use to make themselves appear better than they actually are. 3. A job that will pay bills. 4. Opportunity to observe and learn about the differences between Kool-aid drinkers, opportunists and employees who can’t wait to leave.

Cons

I am not going to tell you either to join or not join this company. I am going to present questions that I wish I could go back in time and tell myself to ask. 1. Product is to make healthcare billing better. Is this product making this world a better place? How does the company make money? Does it make money by charging the healthcare providers for ‘better billing’? Does it serve a patient if a % of the patient’s medical treatment bill goes to making the billing experience better? Are patients aware even made of this %? Are the healthcare providers very generous in footing the charges themselves or are they indirectly passing it on to the patients? Would a patient opt for the ‘improved experience’ if the patient knew about a % of their bill going to towards ‘better billing’? Do they even have a choice in this matter? 2. Does the company support inclusivity? Is a game of ‘Guess who was not the Ralph Lauren model?’ where three pictures of a white male employee and one picture of a person of color are shown to make a joke at the expense of the person of color appropriate? Is it appropriate for a senior executive to further stereotypes/causal racism on a company wide talent show in 2021? Should this person be allowed to continue at the job? Should this person at lease send out an apology? 3. Does the company preach equality, equity and all that good progressive stuff but does it also practice it? What are the diversity numbers? Does is pay certain politicians ( who might have questionable track records like a certain republican leader) for corporate ‘talks’ ? 4. Does the company support employee well being or push them to work weekends using ‘values’ like ‘no mediocrity’? Does overtime pay exist? 5. Does the company inhibit employees from discussing negatives by using values like ‘be positive’? 6. Company promises great culture. Is this true in practice? Is the management here from companies that are know for great culture or are they from the companies (hedge funds like blackrock) that are known for sort of the opposite? Do people drastically change their management style? 7. What’s worse - a honest hedge fund which doesn’t pretend to make the world a better place or a very pretentious company that claims it’s making the world a better place? 8. Does the company employ a burn and churn model? Is the place just a well decorated sweat shop? Does the company have high turnover? 9. Does the company fire employees out of nowhere without any performance improvement plans? 10. Is the pay even good to put up with everything that comes with the job? Great questions to ask.

Hey there, speaking on behalf of management, we see equity and inclusion, the wellness of our team, and our vision of a healthcare system where patient financial experiences are positive and affordable as matters of the utmost importance. Given my role, I’m especially disappointed to hear that we’ve either broken or haven’t gained your trust for these to be your impressions. I would welcome the opportunity to hear your feedback and follow up on your concerns- you can grab me any time or attend one of my weekly office hours or those of Cedar’s People Partner. Hope we might get the chance to connect soon.

Pros

You can work remote. That’s about it.

Cons

They lie about unlimited PTO. The vacation is unlimited IF you can take any because they create all of these rules and regulations surrounding the usage constantly. The unlimited sick is a flat out lie. Sure you technically have unlimited sick days. But every time you’re actually sick - note, no note, on your deathbed in the ER - you accumulate a point. After 7 points they’ll fire you. That isn’t how unlimited works. In regard to training, it is two weeks of absolutely useless information that will not apply to the position you are in at all. You are told to lie to clients / patients and refer them to the department of health for certain questions or their insurance. And make sure your calls don’t go over 7 minutes oh no!! The company prides themselves on support and always being there for employees. That entails a Slack channel and a “help desk” where supervisory employees are supposed to answer questions you have for clients that are CURRENTLY on the phone with you. This seems great in theory but what it ends up being is you telling a client every three minutes (company mandates) to continue to hold as you “research” their account more. Meanwhile you are waiting for a reply on the helpless desk for over half an hour. Clients will curse you out because of this useless policy, hang up on you and more. The company also cannot keep an entire training class. Not only in my training class, but multiple other employees who I will not mention have told me their training classes started with about 10-14 people. By the end of it, an average of 4-5 remained. They cannot keep people! Overall, this company is run like an absolute train wreck and I will be resigning very shortly. Every single thing they will tell you in the beginning to make it seem shiny and pretty and great is an absolute lie or if anything at least a stretch. Run for the hills. Last fact: Don’t believe the positive recent reviews from the last few months. The upper management actually requests all employees like, share and talk positively about the company on Linked In. I would not be surprised if GlassDoor was a new thing too.

Thank you for sharing your feedback! We have worked together closely with the Service Center and other departments to ensure that the flexible PTO policy is fair and equitable for all Cedarians. We are always open to talking through ways we can improve. As it relates to training it is our hope that every employee that leaves a training class feels well equipped to handle their role. This is a work in progress and we would also be happy to talk through improvements. If you would like the opportunity to voice your concerns we have regular office hours on the company calendar for the people team. Including one that is specific to the Service Center. Please feel free to reach out for times and days.

Pros

- compensation was pretty good (base only, no bonuses) - work/life balance was ok, unlimited vacation felt unlimited - voluntary in-office/hybrid/remote choice

Cons

- manager directly told me the path to the next promotion was very steep. the criteria for promotions asks to do things that are not even within your day to day work making promotion seem impossible - not a remote first company if you use meetings rooms in the office and then dial in. the people on the video call are at a disadvantage. - recent ~25% layoff - upper management is not diverse, and several of them are just friends/former colleagues making an echo chamber of bad ideas - the primary competitor to cedar is just too dominant in the space and will not be overtaken in my opinion - a lot of effort talking about - not very racially diverse
