Pros

• Teacher selection rates are just 0.5%, meaning only the best are selected. From my batch, only 15% achieved teacher certification after undergoing quality evaluations during onboarding. A lot can be inferred from this about Codingal's quality of teachers. • Flexible working hours for trial classes. • In difficult times, you have a minimum pay guarantee to fall back on. • Experience teaching kids from over 40 countries. • Earn various certifications as a teacher. • Ability to work fully remotely. • Learn the latest skillsets in coding teaching. • A teachers' community comprised of only CS/IT graduates, who are ready to assist you whenever you need it.

Cons

• Most of your early days will be spent doing trial classes where only 20-25% of students will attend. Waiting for them wastes hours of your time. • The availability of your services must be reserved 10 days in advance for an entire month. Class cancellations are subject to heavy penalties once available slots are booked. Slots that are not booked, however, can be cancelled at any time. • When you fail to meet the necessary conditions, some of which you have no control over, you cannot expect a fixed salary for a calendar month. Despite that, with practice and experience, you can earn significant money from the training you receive. • Failure to meet quality indicators can result in very high penalties for teachers. Taking care of them can be challenging at times since most of them are beyond your control. However, on the flip side, it shows Codingal's commitment to quality.

Pros

Two stars cuz there are only two pros. The colleagues : some of the most talented and genuinely good people you will meet, both onsite and remote. They are the ONLY thing that makes the place even remotely bearable. Exposure : if you want to see how a “startup trying to scale” works from the inside, you’ll have access to numbers, forecasts, and discussions you normally wouldn’t at a traditional firm. That’s where the value ends.

Cons

This company plays a masterclass on how to destroy employee morale, health, and confidence. Micromanagement is suffocating, every single thing you do is monitored, second-guessed, and criticized. Work-life balance does not exist here. You have a 6 day work-week with many employees even being asked to show up on the one week off that they get. Overtime is expected, unpaid, and constant. Wanna take a leave? Be ready to grovel, lie about being sick, or face guilt-tripping. Even national holidays are treated like regular working days with the option to receive “double the pay” if you decide to clock in (and clock in you will because they will coerce you to). Straight up laughable because double the peanuts you receive is still peanuts. The culture breeds fear and submission. Leadership rules by threats, penalties, and intimidation, not by respect. Salaries are insultingly low, I was paid so little that I started doubting my own worth, until I quit and doubled my pay elsewhere. That should tell you everything about how exploitative this place is. Many people simply quit without looking back because the stress isn’t worth it. You don’t “grow” here; you get broken down, caged, and taught to be a pushover. This company is incapable of basic business continuity. If one or two people leave their seats, the entire operation crumbles. That is not just bad management, it’s a guarantee of failure. And fail it will. Final note: If this is your last resort at a job, take it with the full knowledge that it will chew you up and spit you out.

Codingal Response

Response from Codingal's CEO: Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. We value honest feedback and want to address some of the points you've raised. First, we're glad you highlighted two positives from your experience: (1) Talented colleagues - We deeply agree. Codingal has been able to bring together some of the most passionate and skilled people who collaborate every day to make a difference in the lives of students. (2) Exposure to startup scaling - This was by design. From the beginning, we as founders have intentionally shared numbers, growth challenges, and decisions with our teams, so they can learn first-hand how startups scale. These were exactly the things our founders and CEO set out to create - a workplace where people could learn at an accelerated pace and work alongside talented peers. That said, startups are undeniably hard and demanding. They require long hours, rapid learning, and a high level of ownership. This environment is not the best fit for everyone, particularly in the early 20s if one is looking primarily for work-life balance. We understand that challenge, and we continue to refine our culture to balance expectations while delivering on our mission. Regarding the comments directed at the CEO: in any fast-growing startup, founders remain deeply hands-on in product and sales because these are the lifeblood of the company. That approach has been intentional, and has been key to taking Codingal from an idea to tens of thousands of paying customers globally. We are proud of what the team has built together over the last 5 years - serving learners globally, creating employment for 600 individuals, and building one of the world's most loved platforms for coding and AI education. We know the journey will remain challenging, but it's also deeply meaningful for those who thrive in a high-growth startup environment. We thank you for your contributions during your time here and sincerely wish you the best in your career ahead.
