Pros

- Hires fresh graduates - Good working environment - Flexible hours

Cons

- Management changes their ojective very often and are not very good at transmitting that information down the line. - Zero opportunities for career advancement - Very low salaries with no milestone - No RSP contributions and does not pay for the OIQ fees (despite hiring only engineers) - Will hire engineers for virtually any position resulting in some people doing work completely unrelated to engineering (Customer Care, Buying, etc...) - Management will make promises only to never bring it back up ever again

Pros

Learn how to work as a professional by speaking to customers and how to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Friendly work place.

Cons

Management puts 0 investment into their employees. Salary is well below industrial norm. Starting salary is 40k and goes up increments of 4% yearly. OIQ fees and matching RSP contributions are not included in benefits package. No room to grow and very little technical knowledge to gain within company. Management expects a quick turnover rate for their employees and does nothing to prevent it. Moral is extremely low amongst all employees and management knows it. Only recommend Cogan as a last resort to get your career started.

Pros

Great place to learn how to be a professional, develop skill to work on multiple projects, learn how to manage your time, good experience with communicating with customers, decent medical insurance and working with a great team. NEVER have to bring home work. Again, SUPER friendly staff, who will not only help you with your work and make you feel comfortable but you'll definitely make a few friends and get along easily with most of them.

Cons

Number 1 issue at Cogan is salary. Well below market value for junior engineers. Working hard and being a good team player didn't have it's reward. Wasn't able to reach 50k (approximate minimum market value for junior engineers) after almost 4 years! Difficult to find a design position as a Civil Engineer after Cogan due to lack of professional development, exposure to structural design and experience (unless you wouldn't mind a project management or estimation job for you're next job). I strongly recommend to go back to school to get your masters (yes it's true, there are much MORE better opportunities with higher education) and continue looking for another position on Indeed or LinkedIn even if it takes you over a year to kick start your career. After 5+ years you'll potentially become a key member at Cogan with a more reasonable salary but other than that you're just a pawn getting by slowly. I understand this was a negative review but if the starting salary had been market value (which may increase with all the recent revolving door of engineers), I could have seen myself working at Cogan much much longer.
