Pros

- independent/self-reliant work - plenty of time for audiobooks

Cons

- company is broke, both financially and organizationally - exec level management is at best completely out of touch with what actually goes on in the company, at worst actively cashing out before it gets put up for sale (they like to claim they're putting it into a social utility trust but let's be realistic) - middle management is good at looking busy while accomplishing absolutely nothing, demands to be respected while constantly embarrassing themselves with their foot in their mouth - broken promise after broken promise - abysmal communication between employees and management, between different departments - taking pride in your work is actively albeit indirectly discouraged, doing 'more' is preferred over doing 'good' It's wild seeing the reviews from several years ago around when I started, the company I joined is a mere memory in what the company is today.

Pros

While this company is doing some really great things in the transportation industry, there are some major issues internally. You have access to a vehicle while working, and they seem to be moving in a better direction with Diversity and Inclusion things, and are slowly bringing the 30+ year old company up to the 21st century. On the whole, the pros of working here are minimal, other than knowing that what you are doing is helping other people and is environmentally friendly. There are many amazing people who work there, but are clouded by horrible upper management and the executive team.

Cons

I truly believe that the company is having some horrible growing pains, and with no real intention to change. The CEO is disconnected from most manager's and there was no clear hierarchy of who to talk to or who was the boss. Communication within the organization is very poor, big decisions are made without upper management present and big changes are always thrown together last minute. As a manager, I was either micro-managed or totally left alone, and when asked for assistance with problem solving, I was left on read and responded days or weeks later and then got in trouble for how situations were resolved. At a yearly review, I pitched that I felt as though I deserved a bigger raise and explained why. Received a reply 1 month later, I received a gaslighting email saying I needed more "rigour" while my Edmonton colleague in the same position was paid more than I, when we were hired at the same time and did the same job. There are a few staff members who are truly bullies and have been there long enough that they will take no responsibility for their actions or behaviour. There is a general protection of certain team member's and HR will listen to your issue about said problematic people, but will never take action to help address issues. Overall, if you do not speak French or work in their Montreal offices, you will always be on the outs. I will say that considering they had 3 price increases in the last year, the business model is failing, and I hope it crashes and burns.
