Government at its worst

Pros

Provides a steady paycheck and paid government holidays. Work is not stressful.

Cons

Where to start... Confire has multiple agencies that are constantly fighting with each other and IT gets put in the middle. The largest, San Bernardino Fire, is, well, somewhat corrupt. They walk the fine line to make sure they get lots of personal benefits at the taxpayer expense but always under the cover of "providing better service." After all, who would say no to a fireman. As a result, the leadership is lacking. Just come in, do you job and go home. Don't rock the boat and certainly don't try to improve or "fix" anything. IT is generally treated poorly. At the top are the Fire Chiefs, then the dispatchers, then there is the IT staff. Pay is also far below industry standard. You can do much better elsewhere if you have any motivation or smarts at all.

Pros

Awesome retirement if you got in before 2013. Get to do nothing for 98% of your day because management is ignorant.

Cons

Zero chance of advancement. Whatever you join as, that's probably going to be it. Continuous offerings of advancement that never come. Some staff are totally ignorant as to how to do any job including their own. Micromanagement. Zero communication. No respect. Keep your head down and dodge the proverbial bullets.
